Hello

The rain is falling softly as I sit cross-legged on my bed, laptop across the nook between my knees and our dog gently snoring beside me. It is late and I am already thinking of morning.

Tomorrow I will rise before the sun and set my pot to boil. I will shake coffee grounds into the sieve and pour the steaming water in a long streaming circle over them. I will cup my mug in both hands, settle into the crook of the couch, and allow my mind to wake slowly.

I love this place. I am home here. Comfortable, familiar, home.

Nearly 4,000 miles away there is a yellow house with a small pink kitchen, and a sloth that lives in the trees out back. In the pink kitchen there is a coffee maker, tile floors, a small refrigerator, and a basin sink for watching clothes. I awake early there too, roused by the sounds outside the window, birds announcing the start of something new. I set the water to boil, grinds waiting in the basket.

I love this place too. Warm, colorful, unfamiliar.

The call of home and the call of adventure have always pulled at me simultaneously. The beauty of the foreign and the familiar, the inspiration travel brings, the comfort home brings.

And so, in this space, I hope to offer a bit of both. The experiences that have shaped me abroad, the rhythms that have stayed me at home, and the ways they overlap, intersect, compliment one another. Because jet setting and homesteading require many of the same ingredients: relationships, culture, tradition, adventure, and of course good food.

Here you will find travel logs, recipes, helpful tips we’ve learned while traveling with kids, and some of the ways that we celebrate culture and tradition in our own home. You may also see the occasional post on motherhood, projects, and resources that have enriched our day to day life.

Welcome. Pull up a seat, and please let me know you’re here! I would love to share this space with you.

Tell me, are you a wanderluster? A homebody? A food-lover? A culture connoisseur?

Welcome, welcome.
